Hatchet 3 (2013) review (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third film of horror in the Hatchet Series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.

Its use of special effects is the primary strength of this movie. Hatchet 3 is a modern horror film that heavily relies on CG effects. Hatchet 3 focuses mainly on realistic makeup effects as well as sets. The result is some truly horrifying scenes.

The cast delivers a strong performance, with Kane Hodder being the most intimidating villain. The dialogue is funny and clever enough to make it feel like a slasher movie from the 80s. There are also several hilarious moments throughout that offer humor against the horror-inducing action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is so small (reportedly $1 million) the majority of locations used that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from previous films in series. For instance the same (blog) boathouse was featured twice in the film. A lot of the locations feel like they were reused from previous films in this franchise. It can feel almost familiar to those who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be remarkably like other films in this series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances by its cast.
